City of Nevada and Vernon County proposed marijuana sales tax both pass by large margin
With 1,905 ballots cast in Tuesday's municipal general election, the day saw a voter turnout of 15.38 percent. Both the City of Nevada and Vernon County 3 percent sales tax on retail marijuana purchases overwhelmingly passed among voters.
The unofficial canvass of the April 4 municipal general election was presented Tuesday evening, and the unofficial results of the elections are as follows:
Nevada City Council
Two council seats
• Carol Branham: 468 votes (38.17 percent)
• Kendall Vickers: 328 votes (26.75 percent)
• Janie Conroy: 217 votes (17.70 percent)
• Jack Somers: 213 votes (17.37 percent)
Sheldon Aldermen
Two Aldermen seats
• Debbie Huggins: 42 votes (43.30 percent)
• Robert R. Moran: 29 votes (29.90 percent)
• Kassidy Biby: 25 votes (25.77 percent)
Nevada R-5 School Board
Three Board seats
• Jeremy Fast: 855 votes (27.73 percent)
• Lois Ann Pendrak: 783 votes (25.40 percent)
• Alyson Wyson Harder: 748 votes (24.26 percent)
• Adam Dean: 680 votes (22.06 percent)
Northeast Vernon County School Board
Three Board seats
• Deland Prough: 183 votes (33.33 percent)
• Heath Brown: 160 votes (29.14 percent)
• Heather Brown: 140 votes (25.50 percent)
• Chad Phillips: 63 votes (11.48 percent)
Sheldon School Board
Three Board seats
• Gene Leininger: 89 votes (32.60 percent)
• Bill Nance: 76 votes (27.84 percent)
• Geneva Nicole Blurton: 57 votes (20.88 percent)
• Marlene Moran: 49 votes (17.95 percent)
Vernon County Sales Tax
• Yes: 1,400 votes (74.67 percent)
• No: 475 votes (25.33 percent)
City of Nevada Sales Tax
• Yes: 515 votes (75.62 percent)
• No: 166 votes (24.38 percent)
