Vernon County Kids Summer Kick-Off Party held Friday
The Nevada Housing Authority, Osage Prairie YMCA, KNEM/KNMO, and the City of Nevada hosted a "Vernon County Kids Summer Kick-Off Party" on Friday, May 26. The event was free, open to the public, and was the launching point for the Vernon County Kids Summer Program. A hot dog lunch was provided, with games and activities from area businesses and organizations. The event was scheduled from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the soccer fields next to the Walton Aquatic Center, and was followed by a double-feature movie night at the Franklin P. Norman City/County Community Center at 6 p.m.
The Vernon County Kids Summer Program will host free events throughout the summer to help keep kids active and engaged. Each of the events are sponsored by local businesses and organizations to be able to provide the activity for free. The following are the dates and events planned throughout the summer:
• Thursday, June 29: Swimming and lunch at the Osage Prairie YMCA from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
• Thursday, July 6: Swimming and lunch at the Osage Prairie YMCA from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
• Thursday, July 13: Swimming and lunch at the Osage Prairie YMCA from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
• Friday, July 14: Vernon County Youth Fair tour and lunch at the Vernon County Fairgrounds from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
• Tuesday, July 18: Paintball War and snack at Marmaduke Park from 1 to 4 p.m.
• Thursday, July 20: Swimming and lunch at the Osage Prairie YMCA from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
• Tuesday, July 25: Library Day and snack at the Nevada Public Library from 1 to 3 p.m.
• Thursday, July 27: Swimming and lunch at the Osage Prairie YMCA from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
• Tuesday, Aug. 1: Water Balloon Fight and the Fire Department with lunch at the soccer fields (next to Walton Aquatic Center) from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
• Thursday, Aug. 3: Swimming and lunch at the Osage Prairie YMCA from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
