Griffons fall 9-2 to Clarinda
The Nevada Griffons are now on a losing streak, losing their third straight game Tuesday night against the Clarinda A’s with a final score of 9-2 in nine innings of play. Even though they lost, Head Coach Tyler Brown still has positives to take out a brutal loss.
I thought Joey (Funk) threw well. There was, a lot of things that happened where the ball just didn't bounce our way. They (Clarinda) had a handful of infield hits that ended up scoring things like that. Stuff like that kind of hurt us a little bit, and there was nothing we could really do about it. The thing that hurt us the most is that we would hit into a double play. We grounded into six or seven double plays tonight, so that's where we really shot ourselves in our own foot.”
With the season coming to a close and the playoffs looming, Brown also states that they are taking each game ‘one game at a time.’ “We really can't think about playoffs, because if we're thinking about playoffs then we're not focused on the game at hand. That's kind of something that I live by. You can't play tomorrow's game today. So we're gonna show up to the ballpark. We're gonna be on our own and we're gonna play the best baseball that we can tomorrow. Hopefully we're on the other side of it.”
Talking about Wednesday’s game that will take place against the Sedalia Bombers in Sedalia, Mo., Brown told Nevada Daily Mail, “We should have Gage Hays on the mound. It's his turn in the rotation. If he does what he's been doing all summer long, he'll be commanding his own really well. Hopefully, we can shrink stuff together a little bit better offensively and give him his fifth or sixth win this summer. That's been his thing. He's always kept us in games, giving us a lot of opportunities to win. It's just a matter of making space behind him and, and getting our chances to hit and taking advantage of mistakes.”
