Nevada Planning Commission held public hearings and discussed zoning changes Tuesday evening
The Nevada Planning Commission met in regular session Tuesday evening in the council chambers.
At the top of the meeting, the commission held a public hearing on the proposed zoning change of 426 W. Austin Blvd. and 127 S. Clay St. from R-3 Apartment Housing District to C-3 Commercial District. Pete's Corporation owns the convenience store located at 402 W. Austin Blvd. Plans are in the process to construct an addition to the store, remodel, update, add additional fueling islands and expand parking. The houses located at 127 S. Clay St. and 426 W. Austin Blvd. are to be demolished for the project.
During the public hearing, some concerns raised involved lighting, traffic and effect on surrounding residential property values. With a motion and a second to table the consideration of the zoning change, the commission tabled the item with a 4-2 vote.
A public hearing was then held on a special use permit for a short-term rental at 622 N. West St. With no public comment, the commission considered the item and unanimously approved it.
The commission then discussed providing a survey for community members to take pertaining to the city's solid waste plan. Among the discussion was the idea that trash service be mandatory and included in each house's water bill; the damage to the city's roads by trash trucks; and the option of having a transfer station in Nevada. City Manager Mark Mitchell said that the city would do a media push when the survey is ready for the community's participation.
Finally, Mitchell noted that next month's meeting would need to be rescheduled due to a scheduling conflict. The commission agreed to meet on Wednesday, Sept. 6, at 5:15 p.m.
The meeting then adjourned at 6:14 p.m.
