Nevada R-5 Board of Education gears up for Wednesday meeting
The Nevada R-5 Board of Education is set to convene for its regular meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 13, 7 p.m., at the Central Office.
The meeting will commence with discussions on several pressing matters, including:
• DESE Special Education Local Compliance Plan: The board will deliberate on the DESE Special Education Local Compliance Plan, reflecting their commitment to inclusivity and support for students with special needs.
• Out-of-State Travel Requests: CSIP Priority 3 Goal 2 Action Step 6 focuses on broadening educational horizons. The board will consider travel requests that align with this goal.
• Occasional Extra Duty MSHSAA Sponsored Athletic Event Employees: In the spirit of fostering athletic excellence, the board will discuss occasional extra duty assignments for MSHSAA sponsored athletic events.
• MSBA Policy Updates: The district's adherence to the latest Missouri School Boards' Association policies will be scrutinized and potentially updated for the betterment of the education system.
• Adding Instructional Technology Support Position: In a world increasingly reliant on technology, the board will contemplate the creation of an instructional technology support position to enhance educational outcomes.
• Increase in Substitute Daily Rate: The board will assess the proposal to increase the substitute daily rate, which will potentially attract and retain top-notch substitutes for classrooms. This aligns with CSIP Priority 2 Goal 1 Action Step 1.
In addition to the new business, the board will address several personnel changes, including retirements and resignations.
Retirement:
• Donna Govoro, Custodian, will retire effective Sept. 18, 2023.
Resignations:
• James Burk, Custodian, resigned effective Aug. 31, 2023.
• Jerry Moore, Bus Driver, resigned effective Aug. 22, 2023.
• Pamela White, Truman PBIS Coach, has also submitted her resignation.
Following the regular meeting, the board will convene in a closed session to discuss matters related to hiring, termination, discipline, promotion, as well as personnel records, evaluations, and applications.
