Vernon County 2023 Fall Cleanup slated for Saturday, Oct. 21

The Vernon County Commission has announced that they are partnering with the City of Nevada and Region M Waste Management District to offer the Vernon County 2023 Fall Cleanup and Recycling event from 8 a.m. to noon, on Saturday, Oct. 21, at the Nevada Public Works Yard (606 S. Jefferson, in Nevada). All services are provided free to Vernon County residents.

Recycling

All electronics will be accepted for recycling, regardless of condition. It it ran on a cord or battery, it will be accepted. Computers, printers, and other items with sensitive and personal information will be properly destroyed.

Tires will also be accepted for recycling, however, only passenger and light truck tires will be accepted. There will be a limit of 10 tires per household and rims must be removed prior to arriving. Farm, semi and tractor tires will not be accepted.

A truck will be onsite for paper shredding and document destruction. Paper collected will be recycled appropriately. A dumpster will also be onsite for all scrap metal.

Vernon County Recycling Center also accepts cardboard, paper, plastics, and glass. You may drop these recyclable items off at 310 N. Colorado St., in Nevada, Mo. The center is open Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Thursdays from noon to 6 p.m. Funding for E-waste recycling, document destruction, and tire hauling is provided through the Missouri Department of Natural Resources Waste Management Program. Disposal

There will be free disposal of all household items at the event. This may include furniture, windows, doors, landscape materials, drywall and insulation, broken yard tools, hand tools, carpet, mattresses, wood, old playhouses, styrofoam, patio furniture, grills, etc. Anything too large to fit in your normal trash bin may be disposed of at the event. Staff will be onsite to assist in unloading items and items are not to be dropped off before or after the event's hours.
