Virginia Rose (Agee) Crites
Virginia Rose Crites, age 92 years and 363 days, died November 29, 2023 in Aurora, CO. She was born in Nevada, Missouri on December 1, 1930, to William Franklin Agee Sr and Deborah Alice (Williamson) Agee. She married Otis Robert Crites on December 23, 1951, who preceded her in death in 1997.
Virginia graduated from Nevada High School in 1948. Over her career, she worked for Western Auto in both Missouri and Colorado, moving up over the years from counter clerk to bookkeeper and office manager, then taking those skills to other companies as the family moved. Starting in the late 1970s, she attended evening classes at University of Southern Colorado and then Community College of Denver, finishing with an accounting degree that helped her win her position as the first female Accountant/Manager in the Employment division of the State of Colorado, which she held until she retired.
Virginia brought enthusiasm to everything she did in life, not only for herself, but for her children; encouraging Susan and Debbie to join the riding group Westernaires, being a Cub Scout Den Mother, supporting the boys through years of swim team competitions, 4-H activities and much more. Things she loved to do for herself included community theater, pitching for her slow-pitch softball teams, photography, and traveling with Otis. She loved her Denver Broncos, and was a mainstay in the choir of almost every church she belonged to. One memorable part of her service in church groups included a trip to Brazil when she was in her 80s, as the official photographer. She also volunteered as an English teacher to non-native speakers and was very active in prison ministries. I'm later years she enjoyed Bingo and Rummikub. She had a rich life that she lived to the fullest.
Those who knew her, will remember most her smile, her bright blue eyes, and her powerful singing voice.
Virginia was preceded in death by her husband Otis, children Debbie Robie, Robert Crites, Steven Crites, and Douglas Crites, and siblings Tonya Agee, Calvin Agee, Alice Reeves, Marian Perkey, Muriel Towe, and Brenda Agee and grandchildren Kenny Bolser and Jeff Kelly. She is survived by her children Susan Crites and Michael Crites, her grandchildren Damaris Steib, Sterling LaLodge, Josh Kelly, Justin Crites, Jennie Kelly, Jonathan Crites, Melissa Crites and Micheal Crites, siblings Carol Brundridge, Stafford Agee, Daniel Kent Agee, William Franklin Agee, Serena Jo Wallace, twelve great-grandchildren, plus numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.
