Roy Wayne Marchant
Roy Wayne Marchant, 80, passed away peacefully in the early morning of Friday, December 22nd, 2023 in Lee Summit, MO.
Roy was born on June 14th, 1943 in Fort Scott, KS to Virginia Faye Bland and was later adopted by her second husband, Richard Marchant. After growing up in Kansas and leaving school, he briefly lived in Dallas, TX before being drafted to the US Army in 1968 during the Vietnam War. He served until 1970 when he was transferred to US Army Reserve before being honorably discharged in 1974. He was proud of his time in the military and talked about it often.
After the military, he moved back to Fort Scott, settled down and started a family before getting a job at 3M in September 1975. Not long after that, he moved his family to Nevada, MO, where they resided until all kids were grown and moved on. Roy left 3M in 2000 and led a more leisure life working part time doing deliveries before fully retiring.
Roy lived the last 6 years of his life in Peculiar, MO so he could be closer to family in Kansas City. He loved spending time with family and friends, fishing and watching Chiefs games.
Roy is survived by his three children with Barbara Marchant: Thom Marchant of Kansas City (wife Betheny), Stephanie Marchant Herrick of Dallas, TX (husband Corey Herrick) and Troy Marchant of Kansas City; Three grandchildren Baylee Marchant (16), Theodore Herrick (7), and Nathaniel Herrick (4).
Roy is also survived by his sister, Peggy Britt of Columbus, KS as well as several nieces and nephews.
Roy was cremated on December 26th, 2023. His remains will be buried during military funeral honors and committal service on January 26th, 2024 and will take place at the Fort Scott National Cemetery. A Celebration of Life reception will follow at the 3M Clubhouse in Nevada, MO and anyone who knew him may come to pay their respects and share their favorite stories.
Thank you to everyone for your thoughts and prayers for Roy and the Marchant Family. He will be missed dearly.
