Roberta Harris

Roberta Harris, age, 89, of Milo, MO passed away on Saturday, June 15, 2024, at Moore-Few Care Center in Nevada, MO.

     Roberta was born July 30, 1934 in Woodward County, OK to Mate and Marie (Hundorf) Gash.  In May, OK she attended several country schools including Prairie Jim Elementary, Fairview Elementary, and Luther Hill. She graduated from Lavern High School, Lavern, OK in 1952. After graduating, she went to work at the Woodward County Hospital and then the Stock Exchange Bank as a bookkeeper.  While working at the bank, she met and fell in love with a young man who worked for the Airlines, by the name of George Harris. They were married on August 5, 1954, and shortly afterwards, he was transferred, and they moved to Hot Springs, AR.  They had always dreamed of living on a farm.  In 1955, they found a farm east of Milo, MO and began their journey together.  Roberta still lived on that farm until her passing.

     She was a woman of many talents such as sewing, crocheting, knitting, gardening, and caring for the sick and elderly.  She was a longtime member of the Milo Baptist Church. After her children were older, she went back to work for the Tent Factory, Nevada City Hospital, Cottey College, McClain Electric Company, and Nevada State Hospital, where she retired.

     Survivors include her son, Steven Harris and his wife Rhonda; her daughter Kathleen Mullen and her husband Richard, all of Milo, MO; five grandchildren, Edward (Carmen) Clark, Nevada, MO, Robert (Andrea) Clark, Alexandria, VA, Christina Clark, Milo, MO, Stephanie (Alex) Breshears, Sheldon, MO, and Lisa (Tyler) Shouse, Jasper, MO; eight great-grandchildren, Cedric, Emma, Lily, Alyssa, Cathryn, Clara, Ava, and Loretta.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother Bill Gash and a grandson, Christopher Harris.

      The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 19, 2024, at the funeral home.

     A private family burial will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 24, 2024, at Fort Scott National Cemetery, Ft. Scott, KS.

       Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital with the funeral home serving as custodian.
