Leo Gammon

Leo Gammon, 100, of Eldon, previously of Walker, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, July 31, 2024, at Lake Regional Health Systems of Osage Beach, Missouri. He was born June 8, 1924, in Walker, Missouri, the son of the late John B. and Myrtle (Newland) Gammon. In 1945 he was united in marriage to Betty Anne Moberly. To this union were five children, Doug, Marsha, Dennis, Danny and Julie. In 1971 he married Faye Hubbard who preceded him in death in 2015.

Leo was a United States Navy veteran serving in World War II. Leo and Faye traveled the world over. They enjoyed friends in Australia, visiting often. They went on cruises, traveled to many destinations including Africa, Germany, China, New Zealand, Lithuania, Switzerland, The Holy Land, Ireland, and many others. Leo was a member of the First Baptist Church in Nevada, MO where he and Faye attended in earlier years. Leo was a carpenter by trade most of his life. He also farmed for many years. He loved planting a big garden every spring and very meticulously took care of the many tomato plants. He would give away lots of his garden produce when the kids or neighbors would visit. Leo also enjoyed going to the timber where he spent most of the day cutting firewood. He was always busy doing some kind of work where he was his happiest. Leo was a kind, gentle, and humble man. Over sixty of his family and friends gathered at his Walker Missouri farm in June celebrating his 100th birthday. He will be missed by all who knew him.

Survivors include his children Doug (Judy) Gammon, Springfield, MO, Marsha (David) Leonard, Walker, MO, Dennis (Patty) Gammon, Eldon, MO, Julie Reed, Nevada, MO.,

Stepchildren, Charles Hubbard, Mauriceville, TX and Marilyn Wright, Springfield, MO.,

Two sisters-in-law, Annabelle Cantrell and Mary Pederson, Hartville, MO.

Surviving Grandchildren are Jeff (Kristen) Gammon, Dr. Dustin Gammon of Springfield, MO, Gary Leonard, Kansas City, MO, Crystal Gammon of Claremont, CA, Kelly Gammon of Fort Myers, FL, Jacob (Kristina) Gammon, LeRay Caldwell, Cody Reed of Nevada, MO. Numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death are his parents and his wife Faye, a son, Danny Gammon, two grandsons Joshuah Leonard and Dillon Reed, grandson-in-law Eric Caldwell, siblings, Murl Gammon (Lenore), Walter Gammon (Betty), Leroy Gammon (Joan), Irma Jean Litch (Herb), Virginia Wright (Edward) and Eva Mae Beilke (Herman).

Services are being planned at a later date.
