Virginia “Jenny” Lee (Thompson) Murray

Virginia “Jenny” Lee (Thompson) Murray, 79, passed away of natural causes on August 2, 2024 in Laughlin, Nv. The ninth of 13 siblings, Jenny loved people and was passionate about her faith, family, and her country. Born on Feb. 22, 1945 in Kansas City, Mo. to Harold Thompson and Esta May Plumb Thompson.

Jenny attended Nevada Schools and graduated with the class of NHS in 1963 and then attended and graduated from St Luke’s School of Nursing in Kansas City, MO and later attended Avila University continuing her quest to keep on learning the latest medical technology. She loved her patients especially the veterans at her last job in her Nursing career at Veterans Hospital close to Leavenworth, KS. She was a warrior about their care and/or lack of.

Jenny was blessed to find love not once but twice in her life. While still in nursing school, she met and married, Michael Irwin McDonald. Jenny and Mike were married 19 years and had two sons, Norman and Todd.

She married her second husband, Jim Murray, in 1993 after a whirlwind romance that followed not long after a chance encounter at their 30-year reunion for Nevada High School. Soon after the reunion, Jim lost his first wife to cancer. Jim was drawn to Jenny’s kind and compassionate soul, not to mention her beauty. They married a short time thereafter and remained devoted to each other until the day of Jim’s passing on June 14 of this year. Jim and Jenny enjoyed 30 years together. Jenny and Jim moved to Laughlin, Nv. after retiring and there discovered a vibrant community of fun-loving friends with a passion for karaoke. That passion ultimately led them to become professional Karaoke Disc Jockeys known as "The Cowboy & The Lady." Lots of laughter, singing, dancing, loving family, friends and pets. Their lives were full to the very end.

Jenny leaves to morn her passing many friends and a large family who remember her for her passion for life, her love for people, and her devotion to family. She is survived by sons Norm McDonald (Lisa) and their children Caleb and Lauren McDonald; Todd McDonald (Susan)and their sons Max and Briggs Maynor; Lance Murray (Shelli); Kevin Murray (Susie) their son, Briggs Murray; Kelly Murray Werkowitch (Greg) and their children Mary, Madeline, Sophia, Thomas and Michael.

Her surviving siblings are Sisters: Doris Melendez (Mario)of Madera, CA, Waneta Sitz (Butch) Liberty, MO, Charlotte Buerge (Scott)of Nevada, MO, Phylis Blowers of Stover, MO and a brother, Steven Thompson (Rhonda)of Kansas City, KS. She was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings Helen Tobin (Jack), James Rabon (Joan), Barbara Thomas, Hazel Reaves (John), Evlyn Thompson, John Paul Thompson (Barbara), and Charles Thompson. Jenny also left behind numerous nieces and nephews.

There will be a celebration of life at a later date in Nevada, MO and will be announced by the family.
