Darrell Wayne Jarman

Darrell Wayne Jarman was born September 11, 1944 in Esparto, California, the son of John Lewis and Rosa Lea Douglas Jarman and died October 3, 2024 at the age of 80. At the age of three months, after the death of his mother, he was brought to Missouri to live with his aunt and uncle, Zoe and Charity Bean (who he always called Mom).

The funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, October 19, 2024 at All Saints’ Episcopal Church, Nevada, Missouri with the Rev. Dr. James Lile, Jr. officiating. Committal service will be held at 2 PM on Sunday, October 20, 2024 at Stuart Union Cemetery in West Plains, Missouri.

Darrell was a talented musician starting piano at an early age, playing sousaphone in band, cello in orchestra, but the organ was his favorite instrument. He graduated high school from The School of the Ozarks where he was active in music and summer theater. He later attended College of the Ozarks and University of Missouri at Kansas City. All of his adult life he played the organ/piano and served as choir director and/or music director for various churches, large and small throughout the United States.

He played in cocktail lounges and restaurant dining rooms (often under the name of Daryl Ray) in San Francisco, CA, Phoenix, AZ, St. Joseph, MO, Long Island, NY, Tampa, FL, Springfield, MO, Door County, WI, and various other places including West Plains. He also sang extensively for many years both professionally and at various church and civic functions throughout the United States either as a soloist or with his wife, Charlotte. Unfortunately, in 1990, a tumor was removed from his vocal cords and he could no longer sing.

For a number of years, he served as Director of Transit Services, Executive Director or Officer-in-Charge of several homeless shelters in California, Indiana, Missouri, Florida, Washington, D.C., and Alabama.

After having a stroke in 2011 while residing in Louisiana, he retired to Missouri but ended up as the organist and parish administrator for All Saints’ Episcopal Church in Nevada, MO from 2012 to the present.

He was honorably discharged from the US Naval Reserves in 1963.

He was a member of All Saints’ Episcopal Church, Union Gospel Missions Association, Professional Organist Breakfast Club of the Bay area, Musicians Union #6, and a former officer of the American Rescue Worker’s.

In 1975 he was married to Charlotte Wilson (deceased) and in 1990 to Marla Richardson.

He is survived by his daughter, Bethany Wyatt (Travis), Nevada, MO; stepdaughter, Melody Stickley (Matt), Wolfe City, TX; stepson, Phillip Richardson, Gulfport, MS; sister, Rosemary Whitman (George), Bonne Terre, MO; brother, Don Haynes, Dadeville, AL; 4 grandchildren: Amara Jones, Paisley, Emmi and Cady Wyatt; 6 step grandchildren: Elizabeth Wyatt, Madison Wyatt, Cameron Wilson, Ethan Stickley, Landon Stickley, and Shelby Stickley, several step great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, many cousins and a host of dear friends throughout the United States.

A special acknowledgement to his cousin, Connie Troutman and her son, Daniel, who he frequently visited in the Bay Area the week after Easter. He always said they treated him like a king!

He was preceded in death by his Mom, Charity Bean; Uncle Zoe Bean; cousin and foster brother, James R. (Bob) Bean, wife Dorene, and their daughters, Zoe Ann Bean and Karla Bean; his father and mother, John and Rosa Lea Jarman.
