Sandra Ann Serna

Sandra Ann Serna, 82 of Nevada passed away on Friday, November 29, 2024 at the Nevada Regional Medical Center.  She was born on November 19, 1942 in Manhattan, KS to Steven and Freda (Turner) Szekeres. 

     Sandra grew up in southern California where she graduated high school. She was married to Carlos Serna and from this marriage she had two sons, David and Michael.  Sandy moved to Ava, MO and then came to Nevada, MO in 1989.  She worked at the Nevada State Hospital for ten years before going to work for Skills Unlimited in Nevada where she has worked for the past twenty-five years.  The most important thing in Sandy’s life was her family.  She was known to be an adventurous person and loved seeking new experiences with her granddaughters and driving around with her dog Rosie.  As a child, Sandy loved to go horseback riding with her cousin, Karen in the orange groves.  She also loved being outdoors, going to the beach, and the trips she took with her dad to Branson.  Some of her fondest memories were getting into mischief with her friend, Totie Ford. 

     Sandy is survived by her two sons, David Serna (Heather Morgan), of Nevada and Michael Serna and his wife Tracy of Nevada, seven grandchildren, Alexander Serna, Ashley Pearce, Emalea Morgan, Bailey Borum, Isabel Serna, Ella Serna, and Geoffrey Serna, five great, great grandchildren, Adalyne, Brenley, Haelyn, Aurora, and General.  She is also survived by several nieces and nephews including Mary Ann Szekeres, Christine Szekeres, and Stephen Szekeres.  She was preceded in death by her parents, and one brother Dennis Szekeres.

A Memorial Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 2, 2024 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada with Pastor Bill Platt officiating.  The family will receive friends from 2:30 -3:00 p.m. prior to the service.
