Lisa Reneè Handly Stewart, age 66, of Independence, Mo., formally of Metz , Mo., passed away Saturday, February 15th, 2025 at Centerpoint Medical Center Independence, Mo., following a brief illness. Lisa was born on December 22nd, 1958 in Metz, Missouri to Thomas "Buddy" Handly and Rosalie Moore

She graduated from Metz High School in 1976 and went on to get her LPN license from NRTC in 1977. She continued to work as an LPN for the next 48 years working at various places such as the City Hospital, the State Hospital and Heartland Behavioral Health.

Lisa was a wonderful, kind, bold, charismatic, beautiful Soul who will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She liked to spend her free time sewing, she was always making something whether it be making dresses for the little girls or aprons for the big girls. Just this last Christmas she made quilts for each of her kids and grandkids.

Lisa and her partner Chris enjoyed camping and fishing and when given the chance could be found at their favorite spot at Roaring River with their two yellow labs Omega and Tara. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother and she was a constant at her kid’s football games, wrestling meets, dance recitals, swim meets or show choir competitions. She was always their biggest fan.

Lisa is survived by her longtime companion Chris King, Independence, Mo; one daughter, Silissa Swink, Nevada, Mo; one son, Joseph Lyons (Samantha), Belton, Mo; 5 grandchildren, Scott Swink (Athenia), Lebanon, Mo, Breana Ruben (Ian), Nevada, Jameson, Jackson and Raelyn Lyons, Belton, M; 6 great-grandchildren, AdaLynn Swink, Nevada, Evelyn and Emerson Ruben, Nevada, Serenity and Anastasia Solonynka, Lebanon, Mo; two brothers, Max Handly (Terry), Nevada, Bill Handly (Robin), Richards, Mo; as well as numerous nieces and nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Gayle Handly; sister-in-law, Cathy Handly; nephew, Brenton Handly, former husband, Jim Lyons; lifelong best friend, Debbi Hymer Beerman who only preceded her in death by 3 days.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, February 26, 2025 at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada, MO with Pastor Roger Beach officiating.
