This is second year in a row that they have qualified to attend National Competition and we are off to Texas in March. Dear editor: I have read and reread the astonishing front page article in the Feb. 20 paper with the deplorable excuses that Nevada City Council members, Bill Gillette, Mike Hutchens, and Russ Kemm offer for denying a waiver of the $24,782 building permit fee for the construction of the new jail. I read something along time ago that said something like this: "about 90 percent of the miseries and evils that assail man, are caused by people wanting to feel important."...

Deadline is Friday for purchasing city of Nevada dog licenses

The last day to purchase dog licenses in the city of Nevada without a penalty is Friday, Feb. 29. Beginning March 1, a 50-percent penalty will be added to the purchase prices. City ordinances require all dogs older than six months that are sheltered within the city limits to have current rabies vaccinations and dog tags. Dog owners may purchase tags for puppies with no penalty once the puppies reach six months of age...

Nevada's community newspaper was transformed into another kind of tiny community earlier this week, when Judy Raney's day care students created newspaper people. The class spends chilly days mostly inside, making crafts and finding ways to recycle. Using scraps for hair and other decorations, the children formed bodies, arms and heads from newspapers, then made the "people" 3-D by stuffing them with additional newspapers. The Nevada Lady Tigers' season ended ignominiously Wednesday night with a 62-34 defeat at the hands of Bolivar at the state sectional playoffs in Sedalia's State Fair Community College.
