Nevada firefighters responded to a car fire on the Square in Nevada on Thursday afternoon. The owner of the vehicle, Tonya Newing of Sheldon, said it "just seemed to be smoking and I saw flames dropping from underneath the car." At this time the cause of the fire is unknown. At right, Newing manages to smile after the incident. Newing pulled her car into park when she noticed the flames. No injuries were reported...

Ruth Virginia "Gini" Thompson, 87, Nevada, Mo., formerly of Caldwell and Lawrence, Kan., passed away on Thursday, Sept. 28, 2006, at Christian Health Care in Nevada.
