The Community Council on the Performing Arts announces the first-ever Youth Showcase, a CCPA show sponsored by Nevada Regional Medical Center. The showcase will be a "Nevada's Got Talent" show for school-aged performers. Individuals, teams or ensembles are welcome. Marching band has season of successes

The city of Nevada will hold an open house at the Franklin P. Norman City/County Community Center, 200 N. Ash, to give Nevada residents an opportunity to see and to comment on the draft of the 2011 Nevada Master Plan, between 5:30 and 7:30 tonight. Larry Owen Church, 64, Fort Scott, Kan., passed away on Friday, Jan. 21, 2011, at Mercy Hospital, Fort Scott, Kan., following a lengthy illness. He was born on Sept. 19, 1946, in Nevada, to Clifford Owen Church and Hazel Angeline Durossette Church. Larry was born in Nevada, but spent much of his youth in Little Rock, Ark. He served in the U.S. Navy and lived at a variety of locales during his adult life. He made his living as a truck driver...

Hilda Jane Shelby Beshore, 97, of Rich Hill, Mo., died Thursday, Jan. 20, 2011, at Christian Health Care in Nevada. She was born Aug. 17, 1913, to Maxwell and Julia Alice Hamilton Shelby in Allen County, Kan. Hilda, the older of two daughters, grew up in Allen County, near lola, Kan. ...
