100 Years Ago -- December 3, 1903 The Union Water & Light Company received two immense boilers and fixtures from Dayton, Ohio today. Superintendent Donohue had them transferred to the electric powerhouse. Donohue also says that after the new boilers are placed, the light plant and water plant are to be consolidated. The water powerhouse will be shut down, the pumping machinery moved to the electric powerhouse building...

It's that time of year again. As people become filled with holiday spirit and erect their Christmas trees there is an unseen danger lurking within its emerald boughs --the heightened risk of fire. Etna Mae Stone Gransbury, 75, Nevada, Mo., died Saturday, Nov. 29, 2003, at St. John's Hospital in Springfield, Mo., following an illness of several weeks. She was born on July 16, 1928, in McCook, Neb., to Charley Milton Thornley and Joanna Etna Bailey Thornley. She married Dick Stone on Oct. 20, 1945, in McCook, Neb. He preceded her in death on Jan. 9, 1984. She then married Arthur Gransbury in 1985 in Nevada, Mo. He preceded her in death on Nov. 17, 1995...
