I drove a carload of other middle age plus friends to Aurora last Saturday. We took one of my favorite routes -- down to Carthage, across to 96 and down 39. Route 96 is historic Route 66. Signs along the way proclaim this tie to fame. But what caused more conversation among our carload were the remnants of the old tourist cabins that are still standing. None of them are used for that purpose now, but each of us could remember staying in this type of highway accommodations "back in the old days."...
