Grant to fund local deputy's position for two months

Vernon County Sheriff Ron Peckman is happy that money has been allocated for a two-month period for an extra deputy and says the money is from a special fund. "We got some money from the Law Enforcement Restitution Fund," Peckman said. "It's money that comes from a fine assessed through the courts, it's part of the court costs. The money goes into a fund the sheriff can use for things the department needs."...

It's official, baseball will not be in the offering at the 2012 Summer Olympic Games in London. What a shame. While the vote to drop baseball (and its distant cousin, softball) from the Olympic menu originally happened last July, it was revisited Thursday with a chance for reinstatement in time for the sport to not miss a single Games. Baseball will still be played at the 2008 Games in Beijing...
