Stella Irene Callaway, 87, of Pratt, Kan., passed away on Feb. 3, 2008, at Pratt Regional Medical Center. Stella was born on Sept. 25, 1920, near Argonia, Kan., to Chester Allen Baker and Alta Beebe Baker. She married Lloyd E. "Bill" Callaway, July 12, 1942. He preceded her in death Feb. 26, 2002...

Hearl Lee Scism, 67, of Nevada, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2008, at his home in Nevada following a sudden illness. He was born Nov. 1, 1940, in Siloam Springs, Ark., to Ray Edward Scism and Nancy Margaret Biby Scism. He married Barbara Williams on July 24, 1959, in Nevada...

More than 34 percent of all Vernon County voters cast their ballots yesterday for the Super Tuesday Presidential Primary election, an unusually high percentage for a primary. In the 2000 presidential primary 22 percent of Vernon County voters made it to the poles and in 2004 only 16 percent voted for the Democratic party candidacy.
