Dear Editor, Thank you for mailing the papers. I appreciate so much not having to try to get the paper with my walker. Now I can just reach into my mailbox and there they are. It was not safe to go out into my yard for them. At 82 the papers are one of my important pleasures of life...

Road to address changes could be bumpy for ambulance district

Vernon County Ambulance Director James McKenzie said that the upcoming changeover to a new addressing system throughout the county will have a few bumps in the road. While the post office may be ready to deliver mail to the new addresses. The ambulance district does not have the new addresses in a database yet -- and that could be a problem for someone in an emergency...

Rumors of long shutdown at 3M Nevada unfounded

Rumors have been circulating that the 3M Nevada plant is in for a longterm shutdown, but local officials say that's simply not true. The Nevada 3M plant is taking advantage of the Christmas vacation period to close for a two-week period. Plant Manager Dave Clauss said that there was some activity at the plant this week but it will be Jan. 5 when it goes back to full production...

April -- Nevada native wins a new car, fuel prices continue to rise

The highlight of June in Vernon County is always Bushwhacker Days, the county's biggest celebration of history, hometown fun, food, music and more. Highlights this year included music by lots of local folks, a bigger, better carnival, and old favorites like a host of re-enactors, free concerts on the Square, firefighters' games and, of course, the parade -- all part of the tradition of a good, old-fashioned good time...
