Patricia Marie (Koehler) McFarland, 65, of Lee's Summit, Mo., passed away Jan. 16, 2012, at St. Joseph Medical Center, after a brief illness. Ms. McFarland was born Sept. 11, 1946, in Nevada, Mo. She retired from the University of Kansas Medical Center Research Institute in 2008, where she had served as a clinical research accountant. Barbara J. Slapczynski, 83, Chanute, Kan., formerly of Leavenworth, Kan., died Monday, Jan. 16, 2012, at her daughter's home. Barbara was born Feb. 12, 1928, in Parsons, Kan., the daughter of John H. and Frances LaLoge Carter. She married John Edward Kinney, he preceded her in death. She later married Leo A.
