The Vernon County Ambulance District has come a long way since picking up its first patient in 1978. Just a year earlier, ambulances were dispatched from funeral homes. Drivers essentially picked up their charges, then rushed them to the hospital as quickly as possible. ...

(Local News ~ 08/03/03)
There is more to lifeguarding than sitting around getting a tan. Mostly high school juniors and seniors, with a few of college age, these young men and women go down to the Walton Pool every day not to play and goof around, but to protect swimmers. Becoming a lifeguard is somewhat of a process. ...

The third cup 8/3
(Column ~ 08/03/03)
Hi neighbors. I feel people in general find comfort in discussing subjects they face one on one and day to day. For instance, some recent topics were mammograms, six versus four cylinder car motors, dogs, why toddlers cover themselves with lotion then roll on the carpet, books, storytelling and the weather. ...

At random 8/3
(Column ~ 08/03/03)
I haven't kept close tabs on what's been happening in California politics, but I think I have a vague sense of it. My understanding is that, having given Governor Davis sufficient opportunity to govern wisely, Californians have finally said, "Okay, Pal, you've had enough time to prove yourself in national office. ...
