When Eugene Diehr was born on West Hunter street in Nevada 103 years ago Friday, William McKinley was president, bread cost 4 cents a loaf and Puerto Rico and Guam had just been ceded to America after the Spanish American War. Diehr's family moved away from Nevada when he was only 1 year old, and it wasn't until 1947 that Diehr returned to take over his family's farm south of Nevada. ...

100 Years Ago -- October 3, 1903 S.A Drake of Fort Scott, who received the contract for paving Cherry Street with vitrified brick, has filed his bond and signed the contract and all the papers now stand approved by Mayor Wight. Drake will be here next week to begin the work, which will be good news to our people who are interested in seeing the street improved. It is also understood that Mr. Quigley will have the work of paving the carlines done at the same time the street is paved...
